Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine

INTRODUCTION

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU), also known as the Department of Intensive Care and Poison Control, is a specialized department for emergency care, resuscitation, and intensive treatment for critically ill patients—those who are on the edge between life and death. These include patients with conditions such as shock, respiratory failure, multiple organ failure, kidney failure, liver failure, coma, severe sepsis, acute poisoning, and more. The ICU also manages postoperative patients at high risk of complications such as respiratory failure, shock, or postoperative bleeding.
