Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU) is currently focusing on training health-related majors, including general medicine, dentistry, medical laboratory technology, nursing, and hospital management. From its inception, PCTU has established an educational philosophy: training for transformation, aiming to create healthcare professionals with holistic standards of mind and character. A physician should have the ability to alleviate human suffering and restore patients to the best possible quality of life.
With the goal of ensuring that everyone can access high-quality healthcare services at reasonable costs, and with a desire to contribute to community health and reduce the overload of tertiary hospitals, Tam Tri Sai Gon General Hospital has developed a long-term human resource plan by partnering with Phan Chau Trinh University to establish an Institute–University training model. This model aims to develop highly valuable human resources for society.
Under the Institute–University structure, a unified organizational model is applied where hospital physicians also serve as PCTU lecturers. The Institute–University fosters interaction among lecturers, students, the university, and patients. After completing foundational courses in the first academic year alongside classroom theoretical instruction, PCTU students will participate in clinical training and practice at Tam Tri Sai Gon General Hospital (for students in the southern region).
It can be said that implementing the teaching model combining hospital and university has contributed to improving the quality of human resource training for the healthcare system in general, while also providing the hospital with a young team of doctors with substantial practical clinical experience.
